Just sayin that if what we are doing isn't working with the kids we have........why not try to spread it out more. I never said that our kids wouldnt get better and I know they are young. Just trying to understand trying to run a fast paced power offense without the position players to supply that style. I'm not trying to bash anyone,I'm not trying to tell anyone how to do their job.....just think we need to make some "adjustments" so our kids dont get used to having their keister handed to them every week.

OK, Gulfport beat us. With that said and knowing only a couple hundred people could make it to the game, let me tell you from watching the game that it was a much better game than the score revealed. Our guys are starting to come together and become a team instead of a bunch of individuals trying to win a ballgame. Gulfport is a big team, well coached blah blah blah. WL is not that far off from being described with similiar attributes. Our defense gave them fits because we seemed to shift quickly to what they were running and they never could get their passing going. They whittled away at us with grinding the ball forward. It's tough to defend against that and we should know, we've been doing it to other teams for years. The speed of their backs and one good block is all that was needed for a score. Again, that's our story too. Gulfport also has a great ability to snag a shoestring tackle which was just enough to stop a big run on our part.
We looked much better last night as we continue to improve, readying for district play.

We're coming folks, you better hang on. GO KNIGHTS!

He is comparing last years team to teams of the past.  Where you didn't have to go into overtime to beat a team.  I am not saying our offense last year wasn't great, but we have to give more credit, I believe, to our defense last year for helping keep those games close.  In 2005, we had an explosive offense that could have been just about anybody.  Last year, we were starting to see the signs of struggle starting to happen where we have lost the size and speed we once had.  We still have great boys, they just don't compare to 2005's team.  I think that's what he is trying to say.

We all believe our boys can do wonders and I know I wish them the best each Friday night.  I think that the defense this year has really been working very hard as well as our offense, but the team is very young compared to what we are use to having.  Giving them time, they will be good.  But with only 8 seniors this year, you can see the lack of experience we have this year.  I think our boys have played really hard and as good as we could ask for so far this year.  Meridian High was really tough and so was Gulfport.  I think Neshoba should have been closer, but we all make mistakes and the rain definitely didn't help.

Keep up the good work boys.  Can't wait to see us next week against Southeast.  Who would have thought Southeast would have beaten Northeast as much as they did.  I am not sure if I am suppose to think Southeast is that good or Northeast is that bad this year.  Guess we will see.

Go KNIGHTS!

never got on track last year?Huh? What the heck are you talking about? 9-3 aint bad!!!! I haven't checked this blog for a long time...now I understand why. That's ridiculous. Our Offense last year got it done. We won 9 GAMES!!! Come on!

Beat Louisville in the mud, beat Quitman in OT on their turf, beat NE LAuderdale in OT. How can you say the offense didn't get on track all season?Huh

Don't stop doing what has worked.  I agree last year were slow coming out of the gate and never really got on track compared to other seasons.  There are teams that have run this offense for years and win big games with it.  The boys are continuing to work hard and may need a little more time. I have to believe that playing this tough schedule is going to help is down the stretch.  Our schedule is going to be tougher all the way to the end of the season. I think the district will be stronger this year than it was last year.  These guys want to win and it is very important that we stay behind the team and keep it positive. I would like to hear some thoughts about the team.

Thoughts for the team.  STEP UP!!!  Stay positive.  Go Knights.

Personally I liked the offensive play calling during the Neshoba game. We are starting to open things up a little. BUT you have to have the personnel to run the plays. Our guys are YOUNG, VERY YOUNG.  I too believe we could have beaten Neshoba.  If we could have hung on to the punt return to open the 2nd half, it would have been a different ballgame (not saying a win, but a totally different outcome).  We definitely need to see the determination and heart that we saw the first few plays of the 2nd half more often to have a better season. It will take the Sr's maybe even a few Jr's on this team to become leaders. Sorry to say, I haven't seen anyone take that role yet.

Remember these first few games are against top teams in their classes in which are bigger than ours and also remember we were slow out of the gate last year too on Offense. Let's continue to support these kids and watch a "not bad" team grow together throughout the next couple of years into a GREAT team!

Perhaps we shouldn't run the same plays year after year? Maybe we should open up the passing game some more? There's lots of video of our running plays out there for our opponets to study. Granted Meridian is on their way back to Jackson but I think we should have beaten Neshoba even if they are 5A. They wanted the 'W' more than we did.  Undecided

Just wondering if anyone knows the answer to our lack of offense?

I agree. To read the story on the Star you would think Meridian just rolled over West but if you were at the game you know that wasn't the case. I agree Meridian is a really good team but we held our own. Anyone notice they wouldn't give us a decent kickoff once we returned that one for positive gains? Our guys played hard and Meridian knew we were there. Some work on timing and better tackling and we're gonna put a hurtin on someone this year. Go Knights!   Cool

Hoping to post this to get some of you talking...never seen us this quiet on our forum.

First of all, I would like to congratulate our men on working so hard during this game.

So what did you think of the Meridian game?

Personally, I was satisfied for the most part.  Mainly, because finally the season has come and is started now.  Second, I was glad to see our line not have as many problems (penalty wise) like we did at the Jamboree.  Running looks good and passing isn't bad at all.  Not saying that either could use improvement as there is always room for improvement.  Meridian had a really good defense and so many weapons on the offense.  It's no wonder they are ranked #3 in the state (think that's right).  I feel a lot better about the team after this game and really think they are making strides to be a contender in our district.

Can't wait for the next game!  Go Knights!
